If you know someone who's into video games, you might have heard of side quests. They're extra tasks you take on as you meet people along your adventure. They're not directly related to your main game objective. But sometimes, doing them can help you achieve a better ending.
Well, that's my career in a nutshell. After healing from a seriously hostile work environment early in my career, I moved on to HR roles in several industries (Banking, Retail, Restaurants and Airlines to name a few) heeding a spiritual calling to 'take care of the people who take care of the business.' After 15 years, there weren't many areas of the field I hadn't touched. But still...I knew I wasn't doing my best work.
I didn't get it. I was supporting the workers in plenty of ways, and did my part to help companies expand and keep compliant - all these things were what mattered to me. I was working my 'why', but my 'how' just wasn't cutting it...until I discovered coaching.
Like the side quests a game hero encounters, the projects, initiatives, products and partnerships I fostered over the years all led me to this very fulfilling end.
Working 1-on-1 with people to achieve the life they want is where I find my joy. Seeing those breakthrough moments, especially for clients who have struggled for years, is simply the best feeling one can imagine.
It's a quest I'll never stop pursing!
